Property Fraud

Property Fraud has been on the increase since the start of the pandemic. This was recently highlighted again in the news, when a man’s home in Luton had been sold without his consent or knowledge. The risk increases where a property, domestic or commercial, is empty, mortgage free, or the owner lives overseas.

• Useful information is provided by HM Land Registry (HMRC) and the Law Society. See the links below.

• The Government also provides a free property alert to try to minimise fraudulent transactions.

Our Property Team is aware of the risks and do all they can to minimise this. Part of this process are the identification and proof of address checks. If you have concerns then just ask and a member of the team will be happy to explain.
