Industrial Disease

Industrial disease – disease or disability resulting from conditions of employment (usually from long exposure to a noxious substance or from continuous repetition of certain acts).

This is normally the result of poor working conditions including a lack of training or provision of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Some industrial diseases have had more media coverage than others and are therefore better known. For example those exposed to asbestos may have worked in the following trades:

  • manufacturing (mills)
  • building & construction

  • car manufacture.
