Industrial disease – disease or disability resulting from conditions of employment (usually from long exposure to a noxious substance or from continuous repetition of certain acts).
This is normally the result of poor working conditions including a lack of training or provision of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Some industrial diseases have had more media coverage than others and are therefore better known. For example those exposed to asbestos may have worked in the following trades:
- manufacturing (mills)
- building & construction
- insulation
- fire service
- demolition
- car manufacture.
The exposure may result in:
- Asbestosis (chronic long term lung condition)
- Pleural Thickening (lung tissue scarring)
- Mesothelioma (cancer of the lining that covers the internal organs)
People involved in mining often experience:
- Vibration White Finger through power tool use
- Noise Induced Hearing Loss through noise exposure.
If you life and health has been limited by:
- Asbestosis
- Pleural Thickening
- Mesothelioma
- Dermatitis
- Repetitive Strain
- Cumulative Back Injury
- Carpal Tunnel
- Asthma
- Vibration White Finger (HAVS)
- Hearing Loss
